Update: December 16th 2022
The number of reported COVID-19 cases in Ontario was 5,290 compared to 4,908 the week before. Last week, there were 270 reported COVID-19-related hospitalizations and 40 reported COVID-19-related deaths, which are both lower than the week before.

Over the past seven days, there were 1,921 hospitalizations and 121 COVID-19-related deaths. Ontario hasn’t seen COVID-19 hospitalizations this high since February 9, 2022.

Hospital admissions decreased 34% this week, from 458 last week to 302 this week. There were 40 deaths reported this week, which is a 62% decrease from the 104 deaths the week before.

This is the second week in a row where the number of cases are going down! The number of reported cases in Ontario decreased to 10,372 this week, compared to last week.

This week there were 10,982 cases, down from 12,092 last week. Case rates decreased in 22 out of Ontario’s 34 public health units. Compared to last week, case rates decreased in seven regions of the province, ranging from 1% in Central Western Ontario to 27% in North Eastern Ontario compared to last week.

Cases in Ontario continue to increase. This week, there were 11,887 cases, up from 11,257 last week, and 8,617 the week before. Cases have been increasing since the 7th wave began on June 19, 2022.

Cases in Ontario still increased to 11,257, up from 8,617 the previous week and 6,624 cases the week before. Cases have been increasing since the 7th wave began on June 19, 2022. Even with fewer people being eligible for testing, among them, weekly case numbers increased by 28%.

Public Health Ontario (PHO) has been publishing weekly COVID-19 summaries instead of daily summaries. Their report begins by stating that the numbers it is reporting do not represent how much COVID-19 is in Ontario. PHO warns to interpret these numbers with caution because they are not entirely accurate.

​Hospital admissions and deaths have stopped going down and seem to be increasing. These numbers are similar to last week. People who are 80 years old and older continue to have higher rates of hospitalizations and deaths compared to other age groups.

Last week, there were 722 cases associated with outbreaks, up from 526 last week. Last week, 379 new cases were reported in Long-Term Care homes (compared to 288 the week before) and 151 cases were reported in retirement homes (compared to 123 the week before).

Public Health Ontario (PHO) will not be updating data about COVID-19 in Ontario from June 16 to 22. This is because they are releasing a new, comprehensive weekly COVID-19 epidemiological summary. North Yorkers will include new data reporting in next week’s update!
