Update as of Thursday December 31st 2020
As of December 31st, 2020, Canada has a total of 572,982 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 178,831 cases with Toronto having 60,054 cases.
Ontario reports record number of COVID-19 cases for third straight day as number of patients in ICU reaches new high --- The province is reporting a record number of new cases of COVID-19 for the third consecutive day, logging 3,328 new infections over the past 24 hours.

Update as of Wednesday December 30th 2020
As of December 30th, 2020, Canada has a total of 568,429 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 178,831 cases with Toronto having 59,030 cases. 
Ontario reports nearly 3,000 new COVID-19 cases in a single day, number of people in hospital surpasses the first wave peak --- The province is reporting a new record number of COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day, and there are now more people hospitalized with the virus than at any other point in the pandemic.

Update as of Tuesday December 29th 2020
As of December 29th, 2020, Canada has a total of 559,699 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 175,908 cases with Toronto having 58,115 cases.
Ontario logs nearly 4,500 new COVID-19 cases over two days, sets new single-day case record --- The province has released data showing for yesterday and today’s COVID-19 case counts, and today a new record of infections were logged.  There were 1,939 cases reported on Monday, and the new provincial record of 2,553 cases reported today.

Update as of Monday December 28th 2020
As of December 28th, 2020, Canada has a total of 552,020 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 171,416 cases with Toronto having 55,949 cases.
Third new case of COVID-19 variant confirmed in Ottawa -- 
There has been a third case confirmed of the new COVID-19 variant that was first discovered in the United Kingdom reported on Sunday.

Update as of Thursday December 24th 2020
As of December 24th, 2020, Canada has a total of 533,152 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 165,110 cases with Toronto having 54,732 cases.
Ontario sets new record for most number of new COVID-19 cases reported in a single day --- The province has reported an all-time high for daily COVID-19 cases today, with 2,447 cases reported today. Locally, there were 646 new cases in Toronto, 502 in Peel Region, 263 in York Region, and 173 in Windsor-Essex County.

Update as of Wednesday December 23rd 2020
As of December 23rd, 2020, Canada has a total of 526,169 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 162,663 cases with Toronto having 54,732 cases.
Province reports more than 2,400 new cases of COVID-19, as well as 41 more deaths --- Ontario health officials are reporting 2,408 new COVID-19 cases today, which pushes the rolling seven-day average above 2,300 cases per day.

Update as of Tuesday December 22nd 2020
As of December 22nd, 2020, Canada has a total of 515,314 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 158,053 cases with Toronto having 54,009 cases.
Ontario reports more than 2,200 new cases of COVID-19 as the number of hospitalizations exceed 1,000
 --- The province is reporting more than 2, 200 new cases of COVID-19, as well as 21 virus-related deaths over the past 24 hours. The number of virus-related hospitalizations in Ontario reached 1,005 today, and 273 of those patients are in intensive care.

Update as of Monday December 21st 2020
As of December 21st, 2020, Canada has a total of 507,795 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 155,930 cases with Toronto having 53,392 cases.
Ontario will enter province-wide lockdown on Dec. 24th, sources say
 --- Premier Doug Ford is set to announce a province-wide lockdown today, sources have said. This lockdown will begin just after midnight on Dec. 24th and last for 28 days in the southern part of the province.

Update as of Friday December 18th 2020
As of December 18th, 2020, Canada has a total of 493,063 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 151,257 cases with Toronto having 51,495 cases. 
Ford confirms Toronto and Peel lockdowns will be extended --- Premier Doug Ford has said that the current lockdown orders that have been in place for Toronto and Peel Region will be extended as of Monday, December 21st. He also said that he will have 
“additional information on Monday for the balance of the province.”

As of December 17th, 2020, Canada has a total of 484,062 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 148,967 cases with Toronto having 50,745 cases.
GTA may need to be put into strict COVID-19 lockdown --- Ontario Premier Doug Ford seems to be receptive to the idea that a widespread lockdown is needed to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Ontario reports more than 2,100 new cases --- 
​The province is reporting 2,139 new cases of COVID-19 today, marking the second day in a row where Ontario has reported more than 2,000 new infections.

As of December 15th, 2020, Canada has a total of 472,884 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 144,396 cases with Toronto having 49,236 cases.
Ontario reports over 2,000 cases in single day for first time in pandemic --- The province is reporting nearly 2,300 new cases of COVID-19 today, which greatly exceeds past records. Tuesday’s reports also revealed significant increases in hospitalizations, and there were an additional 20 deaths in the past 24 hours.

As of December 14th, 2020, Canada has a total of 464,313 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 142,121 cases with Toronto having 48,624 cases.
First COVID-19 vaccines administered in Canada --- 
In Ontario and Quebec, the first shots of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine were administered to people considered to be at a higher risk of exposure and severe illness. This marks the first day of the vaccine roll-out in the country.

oday, the number of COVID-19-related deaths reached a high, as the province reported 45 people passed away in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of deaths recorded since June 4th, when the same number of deaths was added.

Update as of Tuesday December 8th 2020
As of December 8th, 2020, Canada has a total of 424,733 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 130,910 cases with Toronto having 45,486 cases.
Ontario reports 1, 676 new COVID-19 cases, 10 more deaths --- The province is reporting fewer COVID-19 cases today as well as fewer deaths, as testing rates fell considerably from over the weekend.

Update as of Monday December 7th 2020
As of December 7th, 2020, Canada has a total of 418,688 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 129,234 cases with Toronto having 44,858 cases. 
Ontario breaks another record, reports more than 1, 900 new cases of COVID-19 --- Today, the province is reporting 1,925 new infections of the virus. This is a new record, after the previous record was broken this past weekend. Ontario recorded 1,859 new cases on Saturday, and 1,924 new cases on Sunday, which both broke records.

Update as of Friday December 4th 2020
As of December 4th, 2020, Canada has a total of 396,270 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 121,746 cases with Toronto having 43,112 cases. 
Ontario reports nearly 1,800 new cases of COVID-19; number of patients in the ICU tops 200 --- The province is reporting 1,780 new cases of the virus today, as well as 25 additional deaths.  This is a slight decrease from yesterdays reported new infections, which was 1,824, and the record number of new cases reported last Friday, which was 1,855.

As of December 3rd, 2020, Canada has a total of 389,775 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 119,922 cases with Toronto having 42,719 cases. 
Ontario reports more than 1,800 new cases, 14 more deaths --- The province is reporting more than 1,800 new cases of COVID-19 and 14 more deaths. There were 1,824 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours and nearly 52,900 tests completed.

As of December 2nd, 2020, Canada has a total of 386,716 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 119,922 cases with Toronto having 42,312 cases. 
Ontario records another 1, 723 cases of COVID-19, 35 more deaths --- The province confirmed more than 1, 700 new cases of COVID-19 today along with 35 more deaths. This is a tie for the highest single-day death toll since the start of the second wave of the
pandemic in the province.

Wheel-Trans Update: Non-Essential Regularly Scheduled Trips --- Wheel-Trans has decided to cancel all non-essential, regularly scheduled rides that have been on hold since March 2020. It is important to note that customers with active regular rides, including those for dialysis, will not be impacted and those rides will remain in place.

Update as of Monday November 30th 2020
As of November 30th, 2020, Canada has a total of 373,357 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 116,492 cases with Toronto having 40,944 cases. 
Ontario records 1,746 new COVID-19 cases amid drop in testing --- Ontario health officials reported 1,746 new infections today, up from the 1,708 that were confirmed on Sunday. The highest day on record in Ontario was last Friday with 1,855 cases of COVID-19 recorded.

As of November 27th, 2020, Canada has a total of  354,952 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 111,216 cases with Toronto having 39,414 cases. 
Ontario reports more than 1,800 new cases of COVID-19 --- The province is reporting a record number of new cases of COVID-19, confirming 1,855 new cases of the virus. This is a very large increase from the province’s previous record of 1, 588 cases.

As of November 26th, 2020, Canada has a total of  350,408 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 109,361 cases with Toronto having 39,094 cases.
Ontario reports 1,478 new COVID-19 cases; 21 new deaths ---  The province reported 1,478 new cases of COVID-19 today, as well as 21 new deaths.  The number of new cases is up today from the 1,373 reported yesterday, but the number of new COVID-19-related deaths is lower, as there were 35 reported yesterday.

Update as of Tuesday November 24th 2020
As of November 24th, 2020, Canada has a total of  340,177 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 106,510 cases with Toronto having 38,135 cases. 
Error in reporting COVID-19 data resulted in overestimation on Monday --- Today, Ontario is reporting 1,009 new cases of COVID-19, but the province says that an error in reporting yesterday’s data has resulted in an overestimation of Monday’s total and an  underestimation of today’s case count.

Mayor Tory urges people to stay home as Toronto and Peel Region enter lockdown today --- Toronto and Peel Region have both officially moved back into the lockdown stage of Ontario’s framework for COVID-19 restrictions as of today. This means that all non-essential retail stores are limited to curbside pickup only, and many businesses are closed entirely.

Ford to speak as Ontario reports single-day record of 1,050 new cases of COVID-19 --- At today’s daily news conference, Premier Doug Ford said that as of 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 7, Ottawa, Peel and York Region will move out of the modified Stage 2, which means gyms and indoor dining will once again be permitted.

Ontario sets another record high for seven-day average of COVID-19 cases --- Even though today’s number of new cases (948) is lower than Sunday’s (977) and Saturday’s (1,015), Ontario's seven-day average has hit an all-time high of 919 new cases per day.

More than 80 percent of hospitalized COVID-19 patients had vitamin D deficiency, study finds  ---  According to a new study done by researchers at the University Hospital Marques de Valdecilla in Santander, Spain, more than 80 percent of COVID-19 patients had a vitamin D deficiency.

Several neighbourhoods in northwest Toronto have positivity rates above 10 percent, new data shows --- Toronto Public Health has released new neighbourhood data, which includes information on positivity rates as well as overall case counts of COVID-19.

Update as of Monday October 19th 2020
As of October 19th, 2020, Canada has a total of 198,148 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 64,371 cases with Toronto having 24,374  cases. 
Stricter COVID-19 measures come into effect in York Region amid rising case numbers --- New measures have been implemented in York Region today in order to reduce transmission of COVID-19. The provincial government has called the surge in COVID-19 cases “alarming,” and therefore has moved the region back into a modified Stage 2.

York Region and other jurisdictions could soon be moved into Stage 2 --- Premier Doug Ford said on Thursday that York Region is “teetering right now” amid a rising number of COVID-19 cases. York Region has been reporting an average of 76 new daily cases of COVID-19 over the last week, but the numbers seem to be increasing.

No more outings for residents of long-term care homes in Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa --- Residents of Long-Term Care (LTC) homes in the three COVID-19 hotspot regions of Ontario will no longer be able to go out for social or personal reasons as of Friday, October 16th.

TTC rider told physical distancing ‘will no longer be possible’ on its buses --- A transit rider on the TTC was told by the agency that staying two metres apart is no longer possible on their vehicles. In a tweet sent to the TTC by the woman on Tuesday, a picture showed a packed bus and asked, “Curious as to how we’re supposed to social distance here?”

Toronto Public Health scales back contact tracing efforts amid soaring COVID-19 infections --- Toronto Public Health announced on Friday that they would be scaling back their contact tracing efforts due to a rise in COVID-19 cases in the city.  This means that some people who test positive for COVID-19 in Toronto will now be provided with instructions to notify their high risk contacts themselves.

Health Canada approves rapid test for COVID-19  ---  Yesterday, Health Canada gave the green light to a rapid test for COVID-19.  The Abbott Diagnostics ID Now test has been approved by Health Canada, and the federal government has said that it has a deal to buy almost 8 million tests from the company.

COVID-19 death rate dropping amid better ICU treatments --- Recently, statistics have shown that fewer patients are dying from COVID-19. Child-care centres can expand capacity across Ontario today --- Today child-care centres across Ontario are able to expand their capacities to accommodate more children being looked after. As of March 23, 2020, Canada has a total of 1508 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Toronto’s chief medical officer of health confirmed this weekend that community transmission of COVID-19 is occurring in the city of Toronto. The city encourages the continuation of social distancing.

As of March 18,  2020, Canada has a total of 569  confirmed cases of  COVID-19. Ontario itself has 189 cases with Toronto having 104 cases. 
Today, the Federal Government, along with the President of the United States, decided that they would be temporarily closing borders to non-essential traffic between Canada and the U.S. The borders will remain open for the essential transportation of goods  such as groceries, household supplies and medication, among other things.

As of March 17, 2020, Canada has a total of 432 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 185 cases with Toronto having 96 cases. 
This  morning,  Premier  Doug  Ford  officially  declared  a  state  of  emergency  for  the  Province  of  Ontario.  North Yorkers is deemed an  essential service to our  residents  and thus is not affected by the mandated business closures that have been put into place by the Provincial Government.

​As of March 13, 2020, Canada has a total of 152 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Ontario itself has 60 cases with Toronto having 41 cases. According to the Public Health Agency of Canada via Canada.ca, the current risk associated with COVID-19 is considered low for the general population. There is an increased risk, however, to the following populations:
  • People 65 years of age and over;
  • people with compromised immune systems; and
  • people with underlying medical conditions.
